Best of Both Worlds
Because
of its proximity to Winnipeg (100 km) and
Portage-la-Prairie (40 km), Saint-Claude is an ideal
place to live, where one can enjoy the best of country
living, with a French flavour, and yet take advantage of
what the larger urban centres have to offer. For out of town visitors,
our website will give you a summary of
interesting information on our beautiful
Village. Click on the Tourism
Link and you'll see that we really do
have the best of both worlds.
Although predominantly French-Canadian, the population
of Saint-Claude
comprises many other nationalities, including English,
Belgian, Swiss, Ukranian, Dutch, Métis, Asian and others, all
working together for the benefit of the community.
The Complexe scolaire St. Claude School Complex, a
Kindergarten to Senior IV school, offers the choice of
an English program of education, or a 50% French - 50%
English program. An Industrial Arts program is also
offered. For more information, visit
www.stclaude.prairiespirit.mb.ca.
Alternatively, the École communautaire
Gilbert-Rosset offers a French program from Kindergarten to S4, and may be contacted at here.
A
service centre for this predominantly agricultural
region, Saint-Claude has capitalized on its major
strength, the dairy industry. Parmalat Foods, which
employs 35 people, produces skim milk powder
and butter.
A
modern 12-bed hospital, a health clinic and two doctors
are but a few of the many health services offered in
Saint-Claude. A well organized home care program, a
12-suite Manor and an 18-bed Personal Care Home make
Saint-Claude an ideal retirement community.
The
Saint-Claude Residence is home to six physically
and/or mentally challenged adults some of whom work daily at
Mountain Industries. Six
life-lease homes are also available at the Villa to
residents of 55 plus.
The community is in the process of fundraising and negotiations with the province to construct a new Wellness Centre which will be situated next to the existing health centre. This $1.6 million building will encompass the clinic, offices for various ancillary medical staff and a fitness centre. See the Community Events Page for information about the upcoming auction.
