Saint-Claude
Catholic Church
Built in the mid 60's, it was designed by the
renowned architect Étienne Gaboury who also
designed the Saint-Boniface Cathedral and the
Esplanade Riel. With its long narrow windows of
stained glass, its interior is as unconventional
in concept as its unusual exterior.
The
World’s (second) Largest Smoking Pipe
Was constructed in commemoration of early settlers
who came from Saint-Claude in the Jura region of
France, where the main industry was the
manufacture of smoking pipes. This smoking pipe is
6 metres long and 1,5 metres high, and weighs 195
kilos.
Manitoba
Dairy Museum
Features local and provincial dairying from early
practices to modern processing. The Museum grounds
include agricultural exhibits showing the growth
of this industry, as well as the Saint-Claude
Museum with its 2,000 bilingually catalogued
artifacts that tell the story of Saint-Claude at
the turn of the century and the Bell School Museum
which depicts a typical county school from the
pioneer days.
The
Saint-Claude Gardens
were initiated by a group of volunteers, the
‘Friends of the Garden’. The gardens, which
include flower beds, rose gardens, an arboretum
and a prairie wild garden, stretch for 2
kilometres along the railway through the centre of
the village.
The Gaol Museum
and Tourist Office are on Highway 240 in the
town centre. The restored Gaol dates back to 1913
and shows a typical country lock-up from the early
twentieth century. The regional tourist office can
